Club Season Information
When should my child begin playing club volleyball?
Children can learn basic volleyball skills by the age of 5 or 6. There are activities and camps that children can participate in without overwhelming them with competition. It is okay to start thinking about club volleyball by 8 or 9 years old. At AVC Nebraska, we believe young athletes thrive when they receive proper training from an early age. However, we encourage kids to explore multiple sports as we believe that true athletic development comes from diverse experiences across various sports and activities.
What are the club fees if my child makes a team?
Club fees cover all tournaments, practices, jerseys, practice shirts, coaches pay, insurance, facility rentals, equipment, etc.
9s/10s: $550, 5 local tournaments, one jersey, one practice shirt.
11s-14s: $700, 6 local tournaments, one jersey, one practice shirt.
14 Blue-17s: $950, 6 tournaments, one out of state qualifier tournament (can add more with increased price), two jerseys, one practice shirt. *Will also have to pay $75 to get USAV certified, instructions on that will be sent out after tryouts.
(If other 14s teams decide to do a qualifier, we will adjust fees!)
18s: $900, 6 tournaments, possible participation in UNK Spring Tournament (pending college teams attending), two jerseys, one practice shirt. *Will also have to pay $75 to get USAV certified, instructions on that will be sent out after tryouts.
If teams collectively decide to add more tournaments, or a younger team decides to play in a qualifier event, there will be an additional cost for those extra tournaments.
We will offer payment plans to anyone who is interested and that information will be sent out after tryouts if a player makes a team.
Sponsorship Referral Program: Players can earn discounts toward their season fees by helping promote AVC in the community. For each corporate sponsor a player successfully refers to AVC, the player can earn $50 toward their club fees. For each Team Partner, the player can earn $200 toward their club fees. How long does a typical club season last?
Club volleyball seasons vary in length and commitment based on age groups. Most ages will start their club season in January and will run through the end of April. However, we know that a lot of our players also participate in basketball. We want to respect that season so a lot of our older teams won't be participating as heavily until after basketball season. If a team makes it to Nationals, that tournament is in July.
How many teams will there be for each age group?
Our goal is to make three or four teams at each age group. It depends on if athletes accept a spot or not. At AVC, we will have a "1" team (Blue), a "2" team (White), a "3" team (Black), and a “4” team (Navy) for each age. Our goal is for every athlete who makes a team to feel proud of their accomplishment, regardless of the team they are placed on. With hundreds of athletes trying out and many not making a team at all, earning a spot is a significant achievement. We are committed to providing a competitive environment with experienced coaches across all of our teams. Our main priority is ensuring that each team has the opportunity to grow, compete, and succeed.
Does my child have to attend the clinics and lessons?
At AVC, we offer a variety of lessons and clinics all year that provide athletes with specialized, focused training. We offer these to anyone, not just AVC athletes. While these are a great way to enhance specific skills, participation is not required. We believe in offering plenty of opportunities for athletes to work one-on-one or in small groups with different coaches, allowing for personalized development. You can find more information on private and group lessons under the "Lessons" tab.
How often and where do we practice?
Practices will be twice a week. Once on Sundays and once during the week that works for a majority of the team and coach. If your child makes a team, we do ask that you make practice a priority each week. While we understand that things come up, we only have 8-10 players on each team so we want to make sure that practices are productive.
Practices will be in Kearney, NE. Most practices will be at the AVC Facility (6111 4th Ave. Suite 4). We also utilize Zion Lutheran and the UNK Health and Sports Center occasionally.
Do you provide college volleyball recruiting assistance?
AVC is FULL of current and retired college volleyball players, current college volleyball coaches, and professional volleyball experience. We want to support you and help you with any questions that you have about the recruiting process. We will provide opportunities to ask college coaches questions and listen to their perspective on the recruiting process. If you ever have any specific questions, please email avcnebraska@gmail.com. We are here for YOU.
Is there a high school winter season?
Yes. We will give our high school teams an option for practices twice a week and playing dates in January/February before club season begins. We will reach out to players shortly after teams are made. There will be a small additional fee for coaches pay and tournament fee.
When are tryouts for the 2027 Season?
Tryouts are scheduled for November 1st and November 8th of 2026. November 1st tryouts will be for 9U-14U and November 8th will be for 15U-18U. Tryouts will be at the UNK Health and Sports Center. Times will be announced at a later date. Registration will open October. 1st. There will be a $20 tryout fee. You MUST be at tryouts to be considered for a team.
How do I know what age group to tryout for?
Please check your athlete’s birthday to determine which age group to tryout for. We do allow a grade waiver for our 9U-13U players. Meaning, if you are older for your grade, you can grade waiver down to play with athletes in your grade. However, 14U-18U you MUST follow the age chart. Please also note the rule for 12th graders who were born on or after July 1, 2007 are eligible to play with 18U. And please also note any players born on or after July 1, 2008 who are in the 11th grade are eligible for 17U. Please let us know if you have any questions.
